Site preparation starts before the first tree comes down. When you buy land to build on, it usually needs work before the builder can start. We meet you at the lot and sort out what stays and what goes. Then we put the plan in writing, with the clearing and the dirt work spelled out.
BW Clearing is based in Melbourne and serves Brevard County and the towns around it. Land clearing planning is the first step of land clearing in Melbourne. A solid plan saves you in the long run. The clearing runs on our skid steer and its attachments, and a rented excavator handles the bigger dirt work.
Tell us about the lot or acreage, the work you need and where it is. We look at the job and put a free quote in writing.
The plan starts with the trees. We mark the ones you want to keep and the ones in the way. Then we pick how each part of the lot gets cleared. Brush away from the building can be mowed or mulched, and trees in the building spot get pulled.
Next comes the dirt. A pond can supply fill for a low building spot, so the plan sets its size and place. The plan also covers the way in, such as a dirt or gravel driveway for the builder's trucks.
Debris goes in the plan as well. Some of it can stay on site as mulch, and the rest gets hauled off. The plan says which part goes where.
Outside city limits, the Brevard County code asks for a permit before land clearing, unless the work is exempt. The code counts root raking as clearing, along with machine damage or new fill over a kept tree's roots. When the lot has a building permit application, the clearing details go in with it.
On the mainland, the county protects hardwoods 10 inches across and up, and pines 14 inches and up. Trunks are measured four and a half feet above the ground. A single-family clearing permit runs 90 days, so the plan times the clearing to the build.
Each city sets its own rules. In Melbourne, tree removal for a new house needs a scaled sketch at building permit review. In Palm Bay, a home lot under an acre needs a clearing permit, with the building permit already under review. We walk you through which permits apply to your lot and what the county or city asks for.
Melbourne gets about 51 inches of rain a year, and more than half falls from June through September. The common soils here are flatwoods sands that federal soil maps call poorly drained. Their water table can rise within 18 inches of the surface for one to four months in most years. That is why elevation and drainage come up early when clearing land for a house.
Florida's residential building code calls for stumps and dead roots to come out from under a new home. That rule reaches one foot past the foundation too. Our acreage and lot clearing work pulls stumps out roots and all, with the excavator on the big ones.
For a new home outside city limits, Brevard County asks for a site drainage plan with the permit application. We spread fill and rough-grade the lot with that plan in mind. A barn or shop needs a clear, level spot too. When a pole barn comes next, our clearing plan covers its pad.

Call or text (904) 719-0443 and tell us where the land is and what you plan to do with it. A rough size helps too.
We come out to see the growth and how the machines can reach it. Then we put your free quote in writing.
We settle the plan for your lot, and we walk you through which permits apply to it. Florida law calls for a Sunshine 811 notice at least 2 full business days before digging starts.
The disc mulcher and the brush mower take the growth down. The tree puller lifts trees and stumps out of the ground, roots and all. An excavator comes in for ponds and lot leveling.
We haul the debris off or leave the mulch on the ground, whichever you chose. You get back a smooth lot, ready for the build or the pasture.
