BW Clearing does land grading on lots and acreage around Melbourne and across Brevard County. Land grading cuts down the high spots and moves that dirt into the low ones. The goal is level ground that sheds rain instead of holding it. We spread and level dirt with our skid steer, and bring in a rented excavator for the bigger cuts.
Land grading is one part of our excavating and dirt work, and all of it stays above ground. On a wooded lot, grading comes after clearing the lot, with the trees and stumps out roots and all. Call or text (904) 719-0443, and we look at the ground and put a free quote in writing.

Lot leveling gets a building lot ready for a new house, a pole barn or a shop. Rough grading shapes the ground close to the lines and heights on your plans. It sets the pad, the slope away from it and the path for the driveway. Where each one goes is settled first, in our site preparation planning.
A low lot often needs fill to build up the house pad or the barn pad. That fill can come in from a supplier or from a pond dug on the same lot. Either way, we spread it and level it to the pad height on your plans.
The state building code calls for vegetation, stumps and dead roots to come out from under a new home. So the pad area gets cleared roots and all before any fill goes down. Grading also sets the ground under a dirt or gravel driveway, pitched so rain runs off to the sides.
Florida's residential building code says lots are graded to drain surface water away from foundation walls. The grade must fall at least 6 inches within the first 10 feet out from the walls. On land this flat, that small fall is what moves rain off the pad and away from the house.
Myakka sand is a poorly drained soil of Florida's flatwoods. EauGallie sand, first described in Brevard County at a site west of Melbourne, is found in flatwoods too. Its water table rises within 6 to 18 inches of the surface for 1 to 4 months a year. The National Weather Service office in Melbourne names June through September as the wettest months.
With the water table that close to the surface, the shape of the ground decides where the rain goes. Outside city limits, a new home in Brevard County needs a site drainage plan with its building permit. The plan shows surface water going to the road right-of-way or to a storm water conveyance, such as a swale. We shape the rough grade so water goes where the plan intends.
Brevard County's code has a land alteration permit for fill. It applies once the filled areas on one parcel reach three-quarters of an acre. Leveling for a private drive is exempt. So is minimal fill for a house pad built under an approved building permit.
Inside a city, the city's own permit office answers that question, and we point you there. Surveying and engineered stormwater design come from a surveyor or an engineer, and some lots need one. Our Brevard County land clearing permits guide covers the clearing side.
Florida's one-call law counts a cut meant to change the grade or level of land as excavation. So a Sunshine 811 notice goes in at least 2 full business days before grading starts. If a gopher tortoise burrow sits within 25 feet of the work, the state wildlife agency requires a permit first.

We settle the plan for your lot, and we walk you through which permits apply to it. Florida law calls for a Sunshine 811 notice at least 2 full business days before digging starts.
The disc mulcher and the brush mower take the growth down. The tree puller lifts trees and stumps out of the ground, roots and all. An excavator comes in for ponds and lot leveling.
We haul the debris off or leave the mulch on the ground, whichever you chose. You get back a smooth lot, ready for the build or the pasture.
