Bush hogging, or brush mowing, cuts an overgrown lot back down so you can use the land again. We use a hydraulic three-blade brush mower on our skid steer, and it works like a bush hog on steroids. It cuts tall grass, saw palmetto, dense brush and small trees up to about 5 inches. The mower has a high reach, so tall brush comes down too.
We are based in Melbourne and mow lots and acreage across Brevard County and the counties around it. The same mower is one step of our land clearing in Melbourne, and it handles lot upkeep on its own. Call or text (904) 719-0443 for a free quote.
Tell us about the lot or acreage, the work you need and where it is. We look at the job and put a free quote in writing.
A Brevard lot left alone fills in fast. The common soils here are flatwoods sands, where saw palmetto and wax myrtle grow under the pines. Vines and young trees push up through the grass, and bush hogging knocks all of it back down.
Before a sale, a mowed lot lets buyers see the ground and the shape of the land. Before a build, mowing opens the lot up for the surveyor and the builder. But mowing leaves the roots, and the state building code requires them cleared from a new home's foundation area. When a house or a barn is coming, the plan for the ground starts with site preparation.
On pasture and acreage, the mower cuts down weeds and brush that grow up through the grass. It also clears underbrush from under the pines you want to keep.
Both machines run on our skid steer, and both take down brush and small trees. The brush mower cuts the growth and leaves the cut pieces on the ground. Our mower is faster than grinding, so it fits a lot that just needs cutting back.
The disc mulcher grinds trees and brush where they stand into a mulch layer that covers the ground. That is forestry mulching, a good fit for selective clearing and trails. Some lots get both machines, and the written quote spells out which goes where.
Both machines leave the roots in the ground. When stumps and roots need to come out, that is a land clearing job for the tree puller.
Mowing cuts plants down, but it leaves their roots alive. Florida's extension service says saw palmetto grows back fast after mowing. Its guide to brush treatments rates a mowing as lasting around one year. Federal forest research puts most palmetto growth between April and October, through the rainy season.
The Florida Forest Service lists mowing as a way to cut wildfire fuel where homes back up to wild land. It says a mowed safety zone needs another pass every one to three years. Its home safety advice also says to remove large clumps of saw palmetto close to a house.
That makes brush clearing upkeep work, and we come back to mow again when the growth returns. June through September are the wettest months here, and soft ground can rut under a machine. The drier months tend to bring firmer ground.

We settle the plan for your lot, and we walk you through which permits apply to it. Florida law calls for a Sunshine 811 notice at least 2 full business days before digging starts.
The disc mulcher and the brush mower take the growth down. The tree puller lifts trees and stumps out of the ground, roots and all. An excavator comes in for ponds and lot leveling.
We haul the debris off or leave the mulch on the ground, whichever you chose. You get back a smooth lot, ready for the build or the pasture.
