Pole Barns in Melbourne, FL

Pole Barns · Melbourne, FL

Shops and barns built on ground we clear first

A pole barn stands on large wood posts instead of stud walls, so the floor inside stays open. BW Clearing builds pole barn shops, garages, barns and equipment storage around Melbourne and Brevard County. We also put up agricultural buildings and barndominium shells, with insulated options available. Each building is custom, sized around what you plan to keep inside.

Your building may start on a lot full of palmetto and pine. Our land clearing services pull out the trees and roots, and then we level the building pad. Before any of it, we talk through what the building is for and what it needs to hold up to. On the Space Coast, that means heavy summer rain and hurricane season.

What We Handle

  • Custom pole barns sized to what you keep inside
  • Shops and garages with open floors and no load-bearing walls inside
  • Equipment storage for tractors and trailers
  • Barns and agricultural buildings for farms and acreage
  • Barndominium shells, ready for the trades that finish the inside
  • Insulated options for shops and barndominium shells
  • Farm and property fencing
  • Land clearing and the building pad from the same company

Pole Barn Builders for Brevard County Land and Acreage

A pole barn is an engineered wood frame carried on large posts or laminated columns, the way the national association for these buildings describes it.

Those posts carry the load to the ground or to a concrete pier, so the inside needs no load-bearing walls. On a home lot, that open floor works as a shop or a garage. On acreage, the same frame becomes a barn or a shed for the tractor.

We show up with professional equipment and quality materials. The same company clears your lot and builds on it, so the pad fits the building it carries.

How Does a Pole Barn Builder Prepare the Site?

It starts with a plan for the lot. Our site preparation work settles where the building sits and how trucks reach it. The plan sets what stays and what goes before a single tree comes down. Unincorporated Brevard County's code calls for a land clearing permit before clearing starts, unless the job is exempt.

Then the skid steer clears the footprint and a work area around it, roots and all. Myakka sand, the most widely mapped soil in Brevard County, is a poorly drained flatwoods sand. In most years, its water table sits within 18 inches of the surface for 1 to 4 months. Our lot leveling and dirt work raises the pad with fill so it sheds rain.

Setting posts in the ground means digging. Florida law calls for a Sunshine 811 notice at least 2 full business days before digging starts. Floodplain rules apply even to farm buildings that are exempt from the building code. FEMA's flood map lets you look up your flood zone by address before the pad height is set.

Barndominium Shells and Insulated Pole Barn Shops

A barndominium is a home built inside a barn-style shell. We build the pole barn shell on a pad we clear and level. An electrician and a plumber run the wiring and the pipes, and other trades finish the inside.

Because people live in it, a barndominium goes through the building permit process like any new house. The farm building exemption in Florida law leaves out any building meant to be lived in. In unincorporated Brevard County, a new home's permit also needs a site drainage plan.

Insulated options are available for shops and barndominium shells. The same trade association notes that wider post spacing leaves deeper wall cavities for insulation. Federal climate normals give Melbourne about 63 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter. Insulation slows the heat that builds inside a closed building on days like that.

How We Work

How a Job With BW Clearing Runs

From the first call or text to the finished work, here is how it goes.

1

Call or text

Call or text (904) 719-0443 and tell us where the land is and what you plan to do with it. A rough size helps too.

2

We look at the land

We come out to see the growth and how the machines can reach it. Then we put your free quote in writing.

3

The plan

We settle the plan for your lot, and we walk you through which permits apply to it. Florida law calls for a Sunshine 811 notice at least 2 full business days before digging starts.

4

The machine work

The disc mulcher and the brush mower take the growth down. The tree puller lifts trees and stumps out of the ground, roots and all. An excavator comes in for ponds and lot leveling.

5

The finished lot

We haul the debris off or leave the mulch on the ground, whichever you chose. You get back a smooth lot, ready for the build or the pasture.

FAQ

Pole Barns Questions, Answered

Common questions about pole barns around Melbourne and the rest of the Space Coast. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (904) 719-0443

How much does a pole barn cost?
The price depends on the size and the height of the building, plus the doors and any insulation. The site matters too, since a wooded or wet lot needs more clearing and fill than open pasture. We look at your land and the building you want, then put a free quote in writing.
Do I need a permit for a pole barn in Brevard County?
Florida law exempts a barn or other farm building on land used for good faith commercial farming. The exemption covers the state building code and county or city codes and fees, but floodplain rules still apply. It does not cover a building meant to be lived in. Ask the county or city building office whether your barn qualifies and what a shop or garage needs.
Can you clear the land and build the barn too?
Yes. BW Clearing takes the job from raw land to the finished pole barn. We clear the lot and pull the stumps, then level the pad and build on it. We can also lay a gravel driveway out to the doors so trucks and trailers reach the building.
Do you pour the concrete slab?
A concrete contractor pours the slab. We clear the site and level the pad so it is ready for that work. Some barns and equipment sheds keep a dirt or gravel floor, and we talk that choice through with you.
Do you build fences too?
Yes. Farm and property fencing is part of the same line of work as our buildings. Forestry mulching can open a fence line through palmetto and brush before the posts go in. On farmland in good faith commercial use, Florida law exempts a farm fence from the building code.
Do you build pole barns outside Brevard County?
Yes. Brevard County is the core of our service area. The area also reaches into Indian River, St. Lucie, Osceola and Orange counties. Call or text (904) 719-0443 with your address and what you want to build.
